It was now time to head over to stay at the next Ultimate Escapes residence and after an
extremely peaceful and relaxing rest at the Trump, I left feeling ready and anticipated the
next location with exuberance and excitement.

1600 Broadway, where Ultimate Escapes has 3 residences, is a private luxury residential
building, not a hotel, and just a short walk from the Trump. On a bright shiny sun-filled
June morning I decided to stroll over and enjoy the sights along the way. Walking down
Broadway I stumbled across a new location for The Iridium Jazz Club and knew that this
was the place where Les Paul, the famous inventor of the electric guitar, ,  played every
Monday night. I made a mental note to stop back here later to arrange a visit. As I
approached Times Square that feeling of excitement started to build again. No matter how
many times I visit this part of the city I am always amazed by the sheer electric energy the
tourists, people and Broadway billboards create.

Walking into the lobby of 1600 Broadway was like walking into another world.
The bright light of the sunshine outside disappeared and was replaced with ambient
atmospheric lighting that gave me the distinct feeling of being part of some exclusive club
that only few people in this world get to experience. Once again, Ultimate Escapes chose a
great location to have a club residence for its members. This wasn’t a hotel, and most of
the people in this building live here year round. Reed Prescott, the Local Host for this
location, met me in the lobby of the building and took me up to my two-bedroom private
apartment. As I discovered, Ultimate Escapes doesn’t just help you plan your trip, but also
has someone waiting to greet and assist you throughout your stay at each of their homes.
Reed was an exceptionally good-looking man in his twenties or thirties and I thought to
myself this guy could be an actor. As it turns out, he was an actor and works with a great
theatre called
The NY Theatre Barn. (Tune in to the New York Theatre Barn on this
week’s cover for upcoming shows and info.)

As he opened the door, the sunlight reappeared through the floor to ceiling windows. At
the far end of the living room and as I walked into the apartment once again my breath was
taken away. Standing in the center of the living room I was transfixed by the vision of
billboards and huge signs from a perspective I had never seen before. It seemed like they
were there for my amusement only. I knew that this would be an incredible day and
thought to myself how much better can this get.  Reed showed me around the two-
bedroom two-bathroom residence and outlined every detail. There was a 40-inch flat-
screen TV in both bedrooms and the living room. A full kitchen had a clever  stainless steel
refrigerator built into the cabinets. To top it off, a bottle of merlot was waiting on the
counter –just what I had said I like to drink!  He then went on to outline another extensive
list and itinerary of events that included tickets to any show I wanted to see and
reservations for any restaurant where I wanted to dine. We then went to the lounge and
gym area in the building and once again I was awestruck. Outside of a full-service gym
there was a pool table and full lounge area that contained sofas, lounge chairs and
everything you could want in an entertainment area. It featured a virtual golf room where
you could play 18 holes on the course of your choice, actually driving the golf ball into the
touch-sensitive movie screen.

The best was yet to come as we walked onto the terrace that wrapped around the building

Here the awesome sight of the billboards was met by the sounds of the streets below.

I found myself smiling from ear to ear with what I hope was not a goofy expression on
my face.  Evening approached, and after dinner some friends arrived for a few cocktails
and a game or two of billiards. We stepped outside onto the terrace, which is also equipped
with a large putting green in case you need a little extra practice, and the experience was
complete.

At night Times Square came alive with flashing lights and glitter like no other place on the
planet. As I looked up I could swear Puff Daddy was blinking at me, standing in his
tuxedo, looking down from the 20-story billboard that said, “I am the king! Fragrance by
Sean Combs.” I took it as a sign and brought my guests to see Les Paul, just a few blocks
away from the building. Les Paul’s 94th birthday was the theme for the night at Iridium
only Les Paul was not there to attend, as he was feeling under the weather. But not to
worry, the doorman exclaimed, Jose Feliciano will be there to fill in for him!

My friends and I were then treated, to a set of Latin-flavored rock and roll and jazz that
included covers of Hound Dog by Elvis Presley, and his hit song
Besame Mucho. The
combination of intimate club atmosphere and surprise guest performance was, as they say,
Show Biz History.
