The Artistic Life of Painter and Photographer John Mcgarrity Along with many other fabulous talented artists I was fortunate enough To enter into the private gallery of John Mcgarrity in a room of the Chelsea hotel during The Poole Art fair in April. John Mcgarrity an artist who lives and works in Williamsburg Brooklyn Has a BFA in film and photography from The University of Maryland and an MFA In Fine Art and Painting from Pratt. Married to a photographer, John and his wife Tiffany share an artistic existence That is both creative and rewarding. Like many artists he is “compelled” to create art. It is an instinctive and therapeutic necessity. I asked him what may have been a high point in his career and he didn’t have a direct answer but casually mentioned that he photographed Spike Lee and his wife In the house that they bought which was once owned by Jasper Johns on the Upper east side. John’s work is captivating and colorful. He creates landscapes of perfectly placed colors that introduce images of human beings Words and atmospheres when combined take you on a journey to a different realm of existence. Many of his works are dark in nature but are presented with a palette that lends itself to being very aesthetically pleasing and the perfect addition to any collection. |
