Antique & Vintage Woods of America
Salvaged, Antique & Vintage Wood
Much has been written by several companies about the use of the word
antique wood and why antique wood is more desirable than vintage wood,
which is less than 100 years old. Technically, the word antique is used
only in connection with a product 100 years old or more. Old Growth
antique salvaged wood means that the wood was cut 100-300 years ago
and formerly used to build barns, gristmills or factories at that time. It has
now been salvaged from these structures to be incorporated
into new
construction

Wood types

Antique Heart Pine is noted for its unusual hardness and its
beautiful color of amber and orange to mellow pinkish red.
Antique heart pine flooring is nearly as hard as Red Oak. When its
old original patina is maintained, it will have
a more brown color.

Antique & Vintage Woods of America team!

Our customer service has three stages:

Stage 1: Consultation & advisement: This stage starts with a team of three experts: AVW consultants; the client; the architect and/or designer,
should you choose to have one. At this meeting the design and architectural characteristic of the floors, beams, trim and cabinets are determined
that will enhance the look in your home by using these products. This is a critical stage in the consulting process, since these materials will be the
dominant feature of your new home. Such topics as wood species, color, hardness and special aging characteristics will dominate this meeting.

Stage 2: Sample preparation: Stage 1 will terminate with a selection of a minimum of three or four species of wood for your consideration. The
samples will be prepared according to your specifications.

Stage 3: Viewing of the sample boards: A second meeting with the architect or designer and client will reduce the different sample boards to the
selection of two final 2 foot by 4 foot panels, which will have been finished as in the actual floor of choice.

Fast Flooring Solution
A client had an unusual request for a floor with no joints, and he needed it right away. Antique & Vintage Woods came up with the solution
instantly. The floor was measured and 24 boards were ordered, paid for and shipped within that week. Normally, delivery is between 2-4 weeks.
This client was not able to find any other company that could provide him with what he needed in such a timely fashion.

Fortunately, we had this material in stock. If it had to be ordered, the timeframe would have been longer.
What is Green Building?
With the economic and environmental impact of buildings becoming more acknowledged, a newer field called Green Building has been a driving force and is gaining
momentum.

Green or sustainable building is the practice of creating healthier and more resource-efficient models for the construction, renovation, operation and maintenance of buildings.

This trend is growing rapidly in the construction industry world-wide to address the impact that it has on the environment. What are the environmental advantages of wood
products compared to other material? Wood products come from trees, which are a renewable resource. Wood is easily recyclable, biodegradable, and the most energy
efficient building material available today. When you compare the total energy cost of different materials, i.e., acquiring the raw material, transportation, processing to create a
useful product, etc., wood far outshines its competitors. For example, aluminum siding requires 21 times more energy to produce than does an equivalent amount of wood
siding.

The goals for Green Building are diverse. They cover environmental issues such as reducing solid wastes in construction, economic issues such as a reduction in operating
costs and community issues such as air quality.

The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) offers a community of professionals who share similar goals about advancing more sustainable building practices.
Through member committees you can help shape Green Building products and services. With chapters in almost every state, you can find a support group for networking,
education and promoting green design at the local and regional level-where it counts most.
Design Center
In June of 2005, Antique & Vintage Woods celebrated the opening of their new Design
Center in Pine Plains. This showroom is a must see for builders, homeowner, architects
and designers.

The finest quality of custom wood flooring and beams in both the antique and vintage
species were used in these designer rooms. There are five different vignettes: a living room;
a dining room; a den, a child’s play room, and a bathroom.

As you walk into the hall and living room area, you will see Wide Plank Pine in 18 inch
widths.
