Angie Mason is an artist who was born in Northern New Jersey but was
uprooted quite often during her younger years. This chaotic, disjointed
upbringing helped inform her visual imagination and sensibilities. She is a
graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York City. Her extensive body of
work has centered on a visual examination of modern life in a unique and
sometimes frightening look through a 'grotesque folk-pop lens' of character
narratives. These narratives have established Mason firmly in the forefront of
the modern contemporary art movement with solo and group exhibitions in both
museums and galleries throughout the United States as well as internationally.

Angie visually explores the darkness and light we face in life through the
creation of character narrative works. Primarily she presents the work as
paintings and drawings but also works with a wide range of mediums to create
alternate visions such as dolls, sculptures, poems, video, custom jewelry and
wearable art. "As a visual person having a wide scope of all visual angles
allows for me to constantly examine ideas in new ways that allow for greater
discovery and growth within myself and the work."

Focusing on twisted combinations and dual opposites (such as sweet vs. sour,
happy vs. sad or life vs. death) she paints truths about being human. Varied
influences are found within her work ranging from such things as nature, love,
relationships, dreams, memories, humor, loss and health to name a few. These
mixed influences cause a balance of light and dark that intermingle with each
other creating a visual playground, bringing to life quirky characters that are
beautifully rendered yet with a painterly hand giving them an innocent raw touch.
Mason's works are both horrific and humorous, yet speaks of what it means to
be human.

Mason's undeniable originality has garnered her attention from publishers and
collectors alike, such as actress and poet Amber Tamblyn and the multifaceted
Aprella among them. Her list of expanding accolades range from the
'EdgyCute' art survey book by Harry Saylor and the collaboration 'Feedback
Project' where Adrian Stout of The Tiger Lillies, composed original music
based on Mason's artwork. Mason was also part of the 23 world renowned
artists chosen to be a part of the critically acclaimed Lowbrow Tarot Project
exhibition ( 2010) and book (2012) to the upcoming John Water's tribute show
at the Indianapolis Contemporary Art Museum (November 2011).  Mason also
brings her social and environmental awareness to the public through various
charity art shows such as theWhaleless Exhibition which toured throughout
Germany and Italy and showcased at the Milan Civic Aquarium to more recent
benefit shows for the Japan Relief effort at Sacred Gallery and The Dear Japan
Project in New York City.
My visual playground, the world which I create is home to saturnine
moody bruised soul creatures. Images showcase many of their
touching sad yet hysterical scenarios. The visuals are a stitched
queasy patchwork quilt of emotions, an imperfect, cracked veiny
world in all it's beautiful imperfections. It's a place where failures,
wishers and dreamers live; A place that brings laughter and sadness
together for tea.

Within my work I visually explore twisted life combinations using the
balance of opposites (dark vs. light or sweet vs. sour). The human
experience is full of many strange tragic moments that are sad yet, at
the same time, so full of comedy. It is this mix of comedy and tradgedy
that I enjoy fusing together. Humor and horror married together to give
birth to a family of characters that are my reflections on the world. By
utilizing my characters I aim to paint truths about being human
creating a balance or a tug of war between good and evil, hope and
despair all while telling stories and navigating through my life. These
character documentations are my modern fairy tale I am weaving
together, growing it with time and experience. My characters ,me and
the viewer are all on a journey together.

The work reflects how I cope and see things within our modern world.
Much of the work stems from personal life experiences, dreams,
memories ,fairy tales, to the world's current events and state.
Everything I encounter, I filter through as an ingredient toward cooking
up my personal visions which have a flavor I like to refer to as
Grotesque Folk Pop. This melancholy menagerie of characters and
worlds are a funny, whimsical, dark and tragic view at the wonderful
mess of life. Creating magic in life and making a personal universe is
a wonderful gift not only to myself but also to the others around me. A
wise cookie I ate once told me "Ideas you may believe are absurd
ultimately lead to success. Lucky numbers:22, 12, 7, 46, 4, 25"
