“Take a Moment”

By:  Nina Mistier

Each morning we begin our day with the same feeling as the day before and
probably the day before that.   There is so much to do, how will I ever get it done,
am I appreciated for all I do, I am tired, I hate my job, another day, etc…

If we take a moment to take a deep breath, choose to shift your perspective,
decide to have a great day and know that you will accomplish certain things, you
will feel happier and more in control as the day goes on.  Maybe you can do it
again tomorrow.  Each day you make choices to feel happy or unhappy whether or
not you consciously realize it.  Our feelings and thoughts are on automatic pilot
and have been programmed into our brain to repeat the same thoughts and
feelings every day.  When an alcoholic, smoker or person trying to lose weight
accepts where they are today and chooses to make positive changes in their lives,
they do so one day at a time.  Each morning they awaken and say to themselves I
will do this just for today.  It is important to plan for the future, but also
important to be here today.  Would you give away your precious day if you knew
it was your last?  What guarantee do you have that you have so many more days
that it is ok for you to waste some of them.

Choose to shift your perspective as soon as you arise in the morning.  Decide to
make today a good, happy feeling day.  Think of the things in your life that you
are grateful for.  Think of the good aspects of the people in your life.  Think
about how good you feel physically or how lucky you are to have a job or a family
that loves you.  Think about your cute little dog or cat that lifts your spirits when
you come home or a child in your life that makes you laugh.  Think about
anything that you are grateful for and anything that makes you smile, even for a
moment.  That good feeling is what you want to try to achieve as often as
possible.  The better you feel, the more good feelings you are bringing into your
life.  Like attracts like; positive attracts positive, negative attracts negative.  The
physical laws of the universe are that simple; if you choose to consciously live
today and make it a happy day, you are working to bring more happy days into
your life.  Make the right choices each day and live one day at a time.
