“Look at the Big Picture”

By:  Nina Mistier

We all have people in our lives that make us happy, that we share laughter with and who feed us energy.  Then, there are those other
people who drain our energy, irritate us to the core, push our buttons and make us very unhappy.

If we look at the big picture of why we are here we can choose to ask why is this person in my life?  What is the lesson I am supposed to
learn from having this person here to irritate me on a regular basis?
If you believe things happen for a reason, then you also have to believe that
people in our lives are there for a reason.  What is this person teaching me?  What am I teaching him/her?  It is our job to figure it out; they probably
don’t know, or maybe they do.

If we stop categorizing people and understand we are all here to learn from and teach one another it changes our perspective about those people and life
in general.  This is one of the messages the greatest teachers of our time have tried to instill in us in different ways; love one another.  We have heard
love your neighbor, love your enemies, love everyone, but it seems quite difficult to love someone who causes you hardship.  We must shift our
perspective and understand that each interaction is an opportunity to learn and it will continue to happen until we learn it.  The people who irritate us are
some of our greatest teachers and we may be theirs as well.  Look at the big picture…
