Kaliopy Presents: "Jaxon Marc"
|

Jaxon Marc comes at you from out of no where. "The band has no loyalty to any particular
genre or scene" songwriter and frontman Jax explains. "In fact, I've never intended on writing
a song, it just happens. I don't consciously base my music around any particular instrument
because I'd rather let a song grow and evolve from whatever instrument I happen to be playing
at the time. Whether I'm playing the piano, guitar, drums, bass or just singing... it's just
experimentation initially".
Growing up in a small country town and from a very young age, Jax reflects on his early childhood
being encouraged into music through both his parents. At the age of ten he taught himself the
Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig Van Beethoven on the piano. In year 3 he was handed a violin when a
music teacher recognised his ear for music. Jax took violin lessons at school which he had a love/hate
relationship with. "I was fascinated by music then and I still am today" a passionate Jax exclaims. "The
problem I've always had is I hate being restricted to notes on a page. Whilst I owe much of what I do
today to my classical background, I found the discipline and the confines of sheet music difficult to
deal with because I always wanted to improvise".
In early high school he stopped violin lessons due to frustration. "I simply thought it wasn't cool and
no girls would ever like me if I played the violin" Jax says laughing. "At the time my older brother was
overseas for several years and allowed me to steal his acoustic guitar. In late high school I bought a
cheap stratocaster copy guitar, a solid state amp and a boss heavy metal pedal. I had no idea how to
use any of them properly, but I always knew I was making progress despite annoying my parents with
my woeful playing".
Studying in the city at the time, Jax taught himself the guitar. He then proceeded to buy himself a
keyboard, bass guitar, drumkit and set up a recording studio. "I never intended making money from
music, I
just wanted a place to put down my ideas in my head". Recording soundtracks and doing session work
he started to broaden his own musical style. Influenced by many different genres including rock, latin,
hardcore, jazz, house and electronica he started to look for more in music and from bands that were
highly experimental. Artists that crossed genres and were outside of the commercial scene fascinated
Jax.
"For me music has no bounds and for me music is my life. Life is an unfolding journey of learning,
emotion and experimentation." he says. "The passion is still the same to this day. At the end of the day,
I don't care if no one even likes my music... I do it for me and it's a bonus if someone actually likes
what I do"
