The New York Optimist
Opening Night of the New York
Underground Comedy Festival- Starring
Richard Belzer and the Belzonics!

Thats right, I said Richard Belzer ladies and gentleman! The stage and screen actor who got
his start in stand up ( I have been sworn to secrecy by the Belz himself as to just how long ago
that was!), is at it again.
This time not as a stand up but as someone who surely didn't sit down
either. He constantly reinvents himself. From stage performer, to talk show host, to Law and Order to
his current role as the leader of the group The Belzonics, Richard Belzer remains prime to perform for
years to come and for a wide variety of audiences. The fact that he is a huge animal lover is music to
my ears! His fellow L&O cast member, Ice T, sat behind me and I was "cooler" because of him!

What a way to open a week long event, filled with comics, films and all around great acts.

"Ellie Robyns"
Brooklyn Senior Idol

The person who said, "Youth is wasted on the Young" was not kidding
and that was evident in the recent community event, Brooklyn Senior
Idol! An amazing and annual event, whereby "seniors" from all walks of
life, professions and locations compete for a humble $ prize, while
benefitting the local AARP chapter in Bay RIdge, Brooklyn.

One contestant is a state court judge, another works for the USDA and yet another, is a professional
musician. Equally talented, the contestants and the more than 400 attendees appeared to have a great
time! Last year's winner was in attendance as well.

With the infamous Joe Franklin as the Master of Ceremonies being flanked by talented judges,
Brooklyn Senior Idol was a sure hit! Local elected officials spoke and the organizers and volunteers
were on top of there game.

Hats off to "Tina" who won with her rendition of "Making Whoopie!"
