After graduating with honors from Rutgers University in 1987, Nanette Fluhr continued her study of art at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where she
earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and received the Rhodes Family Award for Outstanding Achievement. There she met John Frederick Murray, who taught
her drawing, painting and picture making skills gleaned from the techniques of the Old Masters. Mr. Murray became her mentor, and under his tutelage she painted
museum-quality replicas of works by Rembrandt, Velazquez, Van Dyke, Reubens, Lawrence and LeBrun while she was a registered copyist with the Metropolitan
Museum of Art in New York.

With two decades of professional experience, Nanette Fluhr’s paintings hang in private and public collections worldwide, garnering her prestigious recognition. Her
Portrait of My Grandfather placed among the top ten winners after consideration of 2,300 entries in the premier competition sponsored by Artist’s Magazine. The
following year she again placed among the finalists. In the 99th annual exhibition of the Catherine Lorilland Wolfe Art Club, she received the esteemed Martin F.
Weber Award; in its 100th, her portrait Phyllis was exhibited. The Independent Art Society and the Suburban Art League have honored Nanette with their Awards
of Excellence for two consecutive years. The Art Renewal Center placed her as a finalist in its 2010/2011 International Salon. The Connecticut Society of Portrait
Artists presented her with a Merit Award in its 2010 Competition. Most recently, her portrait Sophia was awarded first place by My Studio in its 2012 competition.
Her work has been featured in a multitude exhibitions, including many in the New York City area. These venues include The National Arts Club, The Salmagundi
Club, The Lever House, and The School of Visual Arts. On Long Island, her work has been exhibited at The Art League of Nassau County, The Art League of
Long Island, The Huntington Arts Council, and The Hutchins Gallery at C.W. Post College. Her work has also been displayed at The Hudson Valley Art
Association in New York State, The University of Connecticut Gallery in Stamford, CT, The Butler Institute of American Art in Ohio, and most recently, The Beijing
World Art Museum in China.
Nanette is an active member of many prominent art organizations including The Portrait Society of America, The Allied Artists of America, The Art League of Long
Island, The Huntington Arts Council, and The Long Island Professional Artists Showcase. She was invited to be a lifetime honorary member of The America China
Oil Painting Artists League.
Nanette Fluhr is dedicated to sharing her accomplished knowledge of traditional realism with the next generation of artists. In addition to creating portraits, she is a
faculty member who teaches the fine art of portraiture at the Art League of Long Island. She is also on the faculty of The Teaching Studios of Art, where she
conducts a Master Copying class.
Her own Master Copies are featured in a video produced at the Metropolitan Museum of Art wherein she discusses her experience as a copyist at that unsurpassed
institution. She has also been featured in a special Workshop Issue of American Artists Magazine devoted to the benefits of Master Copies.
In her most recent endeavor, three of Nanette's paintings have been selected to represent contemporary American realism in a six-city national museum tour of
China. This tour is historic in that it marks an important moment in the resurgent field of realist painting. She lives on Long Island in Dix Hills, New York.
