What do you think of when you see pictures
of a pregnant woman wearing only a
silk drape or a pre-pregnancy blouse?
Do you think of it as inappropriate or as art?
Is it progressive, or too liberal?
Do you think of Demi Moore who dared
and bared her pregnant belly so many years ago?
Everyone seems to have a different opinion about maternity photos.
Regardless of individual perception, the right of a woman to bare her
pregnant body proudly and artistically, is her right,… period!
From Here to Maternity
By Ellie Robyns
Especially when it was something the woman wanted to do for so long and
she waited years to have a family. It is great to know there are amazing
photographers out there like Rob Fitch
(www.robfitch.com) who specialize in
fine art and maternity portraits.

I happened upon Rob’s website, just by chance. That is how the best things
happen apparently. I did an internet search for “maternity photography,” in
NY/NJ and Rob Fitch’s name/website came up right away.
I clicked onto his site and was quickly smitten by his work and the style in
which he photographed pregnant women, both alone and with their partners
as well as black and white photos of new families (think baby in the palm of
the hand type photography).

He presents a full gallery, giving the reader and potential client a strong sense
of his artistic flair and feel for fine art. The photos are of all types of women.
Younger, older, and of all ethnicities. Funny photos and more serious
maternity photos alike.

Rob Fitch does it all and has the professionalism to back it up. He responded
to my inquiry within a day and was very engaging, even on the phone. He
made me feel extremely comfortable and quickly removed any stigma I may
have felt about taking maternity photos.

Why not? How often in life does a woman get a chance to do this? To be
proud of her healthy weight gain, of her growing belly. To be able show her
profile and not think “I look fat,” because she doesntttt. She is creating a life
with someone, of someone and wants to share it with the world, in this
relatively short gestational period. One never realizes how fast a pregnancy
comes and goes, even when it takes years to get there to begin with. Taking
maternity photos helps create forever memories.
Rob is well aware of the individuality involved. He respects his clients and is a
family man himself. His love of art and of family shines through and he will
help each woman (and man if they have the courage to be in the photos), to
feel completely at ease and confident in their decision to be photographed.

Although he is located in Northern New Jersey, he travels just about anywhere
in the tri-state area and beyond as needed. He has a studio but will travel to a
client’s home if she feels more comfortable there. The equipment Rob Fitch
uses is top of the line and very extensive. I felt like a movie star with all of the
extensive lighting, backdrops and drapery he uses.

Sense of humor is so important in this business and before you know it, you
will be laughing and not even realize you are semi-nude in front of a stranger!
Rob Fitch makes you feel so at ease which is so important when trying to
capture the essence of maternity.
The pictures can be funny, serious or a combination of both. It is up to you
and he is very open to outfits you may or may not want to wear.

Maternity photos are all about art and expressing the self in this very personal
and unique time in a woman’s life.

I would do it again in a heartbeat- well I believe I would have to be pregnant
first!

FYI- the photos in this article were taken by Rob, less than a week before our
baby was born. I think I can see him smiling for the camera too. Well here are
some before and after shots.

Thank you again Rob Fitch, for being a true professional and for making my
dreams of taking photos of a pregnant me, come true!

Please visit Rob’s website and inquire about all of the
accommodating
photography/portrait packages he offers!

Thank you!

Ellie
